Nurses Continue to Illuminate the World

The defeat of the ANA-endorsed Presidential candidate seems a tacit endorsement of the campaign rhetoric of her opponent. Nurses are a diverse group. For some this election result may be cause for celebration. Others mourn. One thing unites us all – we are nurses. We are called to our profession due to our unshakable belief in the goodness of humanity, and the universal need to care for persons, families, communities, nations, the world, and the environment through the art and science of nursing.

The question arises: what would Flo do? A pertinent quotation shines forth. “It is the unqualified result of all my experience with the sick, that second only to their need of fresh air, is their need for light.” Let us continue to be the light.

We are called, out of the depths, to mourn and rise again…

My dearest colleagues and readers. A dark day has descended upon my country, a day when hate and division have called forth a leader of dangerous beliefs and medieval thoughts. We may not despair. We must mourn and then continue in our quest to heal ourselves, our families, our communities and our world. Do not lose the light and inspiration! What would Flo do? She would urge us to overcome, to remember that love TRUMPS hate! Today, we mourn. Tomorrow we work again.

A phenomenal perspective, which may help immensely, is presented by Rabbi Jill Jacobs in the link below.
